Marwari Goat

The Marwari goat is a beautiful breed of domestic goat from India. It’s a dual purpose goat breed and raised for both meat and milk production. It is a desert goat breed and well known for it’s tolerance of hot and cold climates. Marwari goat is also well known for it’s capabilities of disease resistance and capabilities of thriving in very harsh nutritional conditions. The breed derives it’s name after the ‘Marwar‘ region of Rajasthan, which is it’s natural habitat. The Marwari goat is available and distributed through the Marwar region of Rajasthan, comprising Jodhpur, Pali, Nagaur, Bikaner, Jalore, Jaisalmer and Barmer districts. The breed is also available and reared in certain areas of Gujarat state, especially in the Mehsana district and up to Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. The Marwari goat is raised in both small and large flocks. The small flocks are stationary. But migration of the larger flocks is the routine practice during the lean period. Larger flocks of the Marwari goats start migrating in March-April in many directions through their well-established routs. And they usually return back in July. Kutchi Goat

The Kutchi goat (also known as Kathiawari) is an important breed of domestic goat from Gujarat state of India. It is a dual purpose breed and raised for both meat and milk production. The breed is native to the Kutch district of Gujarat. And the Kutchi goat breed derives it’s name after the ‘Kutch‘ district. The Kutch district in northern Gujarat is the natural habitat of this goat breed. Although the goats are also found in adjoining areas of southern Rajasthan, apart from the Kutch region. The breed is valued for it’s meat and milk production capabilities in it’s native areas. The Kutchi goat’s flock size ranges from small to large, having 5-300 goats in each flock. Most of the flocks of Kutchi goats are stationary. But they migrate for a limited period to the adjoining areas. They usually migrate to the adjoining areas during the period of scarcity. Characteristics
Kutchi goat is a medium sized animal with a compact body and long legs. It has a predominantly black colored coat with a few white spots. Ears of the Kutchi goats are medium in size, flappy and drooping with typical white markings. Their face is slightly raised. The hair is coarse and long and the nose is slightly Roman. Both bucks and does usually have horns. The bucks have relatively long and strong horns, while the does have flat and weak horns. Udder of the does is reasonably developed with well placed long and conical teats. The Kutchi bucks on average weight about 46 to 49 kg, and average body weight of the does is about 40 kg. Jakharana Goat

The Jakharana goat (also spelled Jakrana or Jakhrana) is a dairy goat breed which is primarily raised for milk production. It is an important dairy goat breed of the semi-arid tract of the Rajasthan, India. The breed was named after the name of the village which is native place of these goats. The Jakharana goat is spread over a limited area and the total population size is small. These goats in their pure form are concentrated mainly in surrounding area of Jakhrana village of Behror tehsil of Alwar district in Rajasthan state. Actually, the habitat of this breed is a small hamlet in the Aravali hill ranges. Today this goat breed is primarily used for milk production. Characteristics
Jakharana goat is a medium to large sized animal with compact body. It is quite similar to the Beetal goat in appearance, but the Jakharana goats are longer. Their coat color is black with white spots on the ears and muzzle. Their face is straight with raised forehead. They have short and lustrous hair on their coat. Both bucks and does usually have small horns. Their horns are short, stumpy directed upward and backward. The Jakharana goats have leafy and dropping ears. And their ears are medium in length. Jamunapari Goat

Jamunapari goat is a very beautiful dairy goat breed which was originated from India. This breed first introduced near a river of Uttar Pradesh named Jamuna. Since this breed is mostly known as Jamunapari goat. They are also known as some other names like Jamnapari, Ram Sagol etc. They become highly meat and milk productive and also very suitable for show. In India this goat breed is considered as the best dairy goat. They are one of the giant goat breeds with a pair of very long ear. Since 1953, the Jamunapari goat has been imported to Indonesia. And in Indonesia, the breed has been a great success. It has also played a very important role for creating some other breeds. For example, the Jamunapari goat is one of the ancestors of the American Nubian goats. According to the 1972 census, there were an estimated 580000 of the breed available in India. Physical Characteristics

• The body of this goat is comparatively long sized than other goats.
• They are of white, black, yellow, brown or various mixed colored.
• Long sized legs with long hair in the thigh and back legs.
• Love to graze in the open field.
• The tail of Jamunapari goat is short and typically curved upward.
• Very long sized thin ears which are curved downwards.
• Has a pair of small sized horns which are curved to backwards.
• They produce one baby goat per year.
• Female Jamunapari goat gives about 2-3 litter milk daily.
• An adult male goat weights about 65-90 kg and an adult female goat weights about 40-60 kg.
• Almost all goat has slightly brown spots in their mouth and neck.
• The udder is comparatively capacious but pendulous and the teats are long.
